Moneysupermarket: Nearly one in four skiers uninsured

Moneysupermarket: Nearly one in four skiers uninsured

Financial comparison website moneysupermarket.com has claimed that 28 per cent of people who go skiing on holiday do not have insurance cover for winter sports.

Of those skiers that do insure themselves, only half are certain that they are fully covered against injury or accident, despite the fact that these winter holidaymakers spend on average four hours skiing each day.

Some 12 per cent of people asked said that they did not have travel insurance at all and another 22 per cent said they couldn't remember if they had purchased a policy.

Peter Gerrard, moneysupermarket researcher, advised all people planning on taking a winter skiing holiday to check their policy carefully and be aware of certain factors which could invalidate their cover.

"It is a little known fact, but virtually every travel insurance policy on the market includes a clause that says if you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time an incident occurred, you may not be able to make a claim as your policy may be rendered invalid," he said.

    E-air travel insurance hits market

    E-air travel insurance hits market

Electronic air travel insurance policies are expected to take the place of traditional paper policies and be sold together with electronic air tickets.

The E-policy has been launched by Air Union Insurance Brokers Co Ltd, Tianqin Insurance Brokers (Beijing) Co and International Air Transport Association in cooperation with over 20 domestic insurance companies. E-ticket buyers can make their own choices in insurance companies.

It is noticeable that two of the initiators are professional insurance broker companies. Air Union Insurance Brokers was jointly established by 13 large State-owned enterprises such as China Airlines, China Southern Airlines and China Eastern Airlines in August 2004 and ranked among the top six insurance brokers nationwide by commission income in 2005. Tianqin (Beijing) is also a nationwide insurance broker founded in March 2004.

Holiday Travel Insurance Advice From Travel Assist Network For ...

AUSTIN, Texas/EWORLDWIRE/Nov. 1, 2006 --- Travel Assist Network, a leading provider of travel-related emergency services, is advising seniors to verify that the appropriate travel insurance is in place before traveling this holiday season. The U.S. Department of State strongly urges Americans, especially seniors, to consult with their medical insurance company prior to traveling abroad to confirm whether their policy applies overseas and if it will cover emergency expenses such as a medical evacuation or hospitalization.

Most U.S. medical insurance plans will not cover health costs incurred outside the United States unless supplemental coverage is purchased.

U.S. Medicare and Medicaid programs do not provide payment for medical services outside the United States. However, many travel agents and private companies offer plans that will cover health care expenses incurred overseas including emergency services such as medical evacuations.
